Pious of Shit: Sonseed

To say I am behind the times in terms of internet memes and viral videos would be a massive understatement, so forgive me if I am a little late to this party. If you have not yet heard of Sonseed then you’re in for a treat.

We first featured this song a year or so ago in one of our first episodes of the radio show to much acclaim from listeners; we had 3 confirmed reports of listeners switching off – great success.

Sonseed is a Catholic ‘rock’ group forming in the late ’70s in Brooklyn. The smarmy sex-symbol to your right here is singer, guitarist and front-man Sal Polichetti. They played at their church, ‘Our Lady of Perpetual Help’ until they released their first, and only, album ‘First Fruit’ in 1983.

I have been searching both online and in opp-shops and second-hand record stores for ‘First Fruit’ to no avail (if you know where I can find it leave a comment). There have been speculations and rumours (please be true!) of a follow up album with the amazing title: ‘Just Can’t Get Enough (Of Jesus!!!)’.

I am glad to be able to present the video in full and not just the audio. Is it just me or does there seem to be a massive disparity of attitude between the guy playing the red guitar and the rest of the band? He seems really out of place, kind of like an old school ‘70s punk dressed in a vest and forced to praise Jesus. Either way, he’s my favourite.
